Friends and colleagues who have been part of our journey:
Prof. Reedik Mägi. PhD student from 2003-2007. After completing his post-doc at Oxford University he joined the Estonian Biobank research team to become one of the most cited scientist in Estonia.
Prof. Priit Palta. Defended his Bachelor (2005), Master’s (2007) and PhD (2015) with us. Currently a Professor of Translational Genomics at the Institute of Genomics, University of Tartu.
Dr. Tarmo Puurand. Part of our team for two decades (2005–2025).
Dr. Silja Laht. She played a significant role in our cone snail genome sequencing project, and defended her PhD in 2015. She is currently developing a platform for reporting clinical test results at LabToWellness.
Dr. Märt Roosaare. Defended his Master’s (2014) and PhD (2018) with us. Author of StrainSeeker and PlasmidSeeker. Currently works as a back-end software developer.
Dr. Ulvi Gerst Talas. She worked in our workgroup as research scientist from 2010 to 2015, developing software for analysing human personal genomes. Currently Bioinformatics Team Leader at the High Performance Computing Center, University of Tartu.
Dr. Maarja Jõeloo [Lepamets]. She finished record-breaking two bachelor theses and one master thesis in our group. Currently postdoc at Institute for Molecular Medicine Finland (FIMM).
Dr. Tõnu Margus. One of the founders of our workgroup. Worked with us since the establishment of the department in 2002 until his PhD defence in 2013.
